It’s been a sweltering summer. And it wasn’t just the oppressive heat and humidity. There was also the sweaty behind-the-scenes work of streamlining and modernizing the dojo, and preparing for September.
Aikido is a year-round pursuit. Training is not seasonal like baseball or skiing. However, dojo life tends to ebb and flow in accordance with school, holiday, and vacation calendars. Summer affords some extra free time to recuperate, plan, and set up new things. That said, here’s some practical information about the dojo for this autumn!
Autumn Schedule: New classes
This autumn, we’ll be offering classes for adults, teens, and children starting at age 4. Free trial classes are of course available, as well. Click here for the full schedule.
For adults, classes will be offered Monday-Friday from 7:00-8:00 pm. There’s also been talk about a weekday morning class. Is that something that interests you? Click here to take a 1-question survey and be heard!
New to the schedule are Saturday morning Youth Aikido classes for ages 6+. Saturday classes are from 9:00-10:00 am. Please be sure to sign up by 8:00 pm on Fridays for this class. Our weekday Youth Aikido classes are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00-6:00 pm.
Classes for children ages 4-5 are back, too! The 10-class session starts September 13, 2022. Classes meet every Tuesday at 4:00 pm until November 15. Space is limited. Click here for details and to get started!
New App
We have a cool new app! Use it to schedule classes, refer families, check promotion requirements, purchase uniforms, in-app messaging, and more. Get it in 3 easy steps!
Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search “MyStudio App” and download.
Log into the app and type AIKIDOOFSOUTHBROOKLYN for the studio code.
Log in with Facebook, Google, or your Email.
Music in the Dojo
This autumn, we’re also pleased to welcome two music programs: Music Together® with Treble Time Music Studio and the Brooklyn Guitar Salon.
Music Together® with Treble Time Music Studio is an early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers. There are weekly classes at the dojo for kids up to 5 years of age. Classes start Monday, September 12. Click here to learn more and to sign up for a free trial class.
We’re also hosting the Brooklyn Guitar Salon, an open mic/meetup for classical guitarists, and Flamenco and acoustic players.
New Admin Software
Our new app is part of our upgraded and streamlined administrative software. You don’t have to do anything and probably won’t even notice the change. However, it’s a big change from the previous ad hoc system that was cobbled together over the last decade. Our hope is that the new system will decrease paperwork time and increase mat time.
