Martial Arts for Kids (Ages 6+)

To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury is the Art of Peace.
— Morihei Ueshiba, aikido founder

Using aikido principles, techniques, and games, our youth aikido classes for ages 6 and older focus on developing self-defense skills, as well as coordination, concentration, and cooperation in a fun, safe, and non-competitive community. All classes are a taught by AOSB’s head instructor Josh Paul Sensei, a fifth-degree black belt with more than 20 year’s experience. Get started with a free trial class.

Here are just a few reasons why our aikido programs are an ideal choice for kids of all ages:

  • Non-Competitive: Aikido emphasizes cooperation rather than competition. This helps children build confidence and self-esteem in a supportive environment.

  • Physical Fitness: Aikido practice involves movement, stretching, and coordination, which improves a child's physical fitness, balance, and flexibility.

  • Focus and Discipline: Through practicing aikido techniques and following instructions in class, children develop better focus, discipline, and respect for others.

  • Conflict Resolution: Aikido teaches children how to resolve conflicts peacefully and defuse potentially challenging situations without resorting to aggression.

  • Safety Skills: Aikido includes techniques for falling safely and learning how to protect oneself, which can be valuable skills for children.
